Development of understanding of equality of 2nd and 3rd grade pupils.
Routa, Miroslav ; Jirotková, Darina (advisor) ; Kvaszová, Milena (referee)
The topic of the thesis is the development of understanding of equality in pupils of the 2nd and 3rd year of primary schools. The thesis is based on research conducted within the project Teachers' Understanding of the Causes of School Failure and the Effectiveness of Educational Interventions, in which more than 600 pupils participated. Using the results of the aforementioned research, I will analyse the most common errors and the causes from which the errors may have developed. Thanks to the results from two didactic tests in mathematics in two consecutive years with the same pupils, I can observe where the perception of equality has shifted in one year. My next goal will be to find out, by analyzing textbooks and hypothesizing about the mathematical notations used, whether my conjectures about the reasons for the incorrect solutions are correct. Based on the results of the research, it seems that the choice of textbooks that students use to learn from has a significant impact on their understanding of equality. In order to test this hypothesis, I will conduct a detailed analysis of the textbooks of all publishers used for teaching in the researched classes. A mapping will be carried out of situations in which pupils encounter equations and other tasks that promote understanding of equality. The...
Addressing structural inequality through education access
Davey, Elizabeth ; Angelovská, Olga (advisor) ; Ndiaye, Sokhna Adele Rosalie (referee)
Elizabeth Davey Public and Social Policy Master's Thesis Abstract Education has long been perceived to be the key to positive social mobility, but mounting evidence has shown that for many low-income students this may be more of a myth than reality. The Achievement Gap between students of different socio-economic and racial groups remains persistently difficult to eliminate despite decades of efforts geared at school reforms. Recognizing the importance of developing more equitable funding allocation for public education institutions, as well as the general consensus that such a policy is an essential step toward increasing equity in the education system, this paper looks at addressing the problem through a different lens. This thesis develops an index of how cross generational relationships and circumstances play into a child's academic access, and as a result, their academic outcomes. Using this index, this thesis adds to the body of knowledge on the topic and a new perspective to the discourse surrounding equity in education, and educational outcomes by considering how Two-Generation interventions can address these intersections. To complete the triangulation, interviews, and observations with leadership staff, program social workers, and participants of a successful Two- Gen program are used to address...
Gender and Law
Jará, Nikola ; Agha, Petr (advisor) ; Kosek, Jan (referee)
Gender equality, which encompasses the equal treatment of women and men, is a contemporary issue that concerns us all. Unfortunately, it does not receive adequate attention in the legal framework of the Czech Republic. The legal regulations governing equality and equal opportunities remain insufficient, and the Czech Republic lags behind other European countries in this regard. There is a notable lack of interest and concrete efforts to address gender inequality within Czech society. In theory, women, like men, are granted civil and political rights under the law, including the right to equal pay for equal work. However, in practice, significant disparities persist, especially in the labor market and decision-making processes. One way to promote equality in society is through affirmative action. This thesis delves into the theoretical concepts related to gender equality, discrimination, and affirmative action. It also conducts an analysis of existing equality legislation and the state's gender policies. Additionally, the thesis examines key areas where women face disadvantages and discrimination. It takes into account the social factors contributing to persistent inequality, the influence of gender segregation and stereotypes, and the unequal position of women in public life. The objective of this...
Sexual harassment and other forms of harassment at a workplace
Jíchová, Leona ; Tomšej, Jakub (referee)
Sexual harassment and other forms of harassment at a workplace Abstract This thesis focuses on the issue of sexual harassment and other forms of harassment within the framework of employment relations. It addresses sexual harassment, which can be considered as one of the most serious forms of harassment, as well as a type of discrimination that represents an unwanted, intense and crucial interference in the working life of a harassed person. The aim of this thesis is to analyse the importance of adequate prevention in individual workplaces, the relevance of establishing applicable control mechanisms to ensure compliance with set rules and the inadequacy of the currently provided protection for victims. This thesis proposes possible corrections and tools that should ideally be applied in workplaces and their compliance should be enforced and monitored by state authorities. Moreover, it is gradually supported by related judgements on the matter. The premises and hypotheses are compared with the results of various surveys and studies. The main chapters contain suggestions and considerations aimed at improving the current situation. This thesis is divided into seven chapters. The individual chapters are structured in such a way that the reader first gains a theoretical understanding of the issue and is thus...
Change in the perception of feminism in Czech literary magazines in the 2010s
Součková, Alžběta ; Čeňková, Jana (advisor) ; Osvaldová, Barbora (referee)
This thesis examines the change in the perception of feminism on the pages of three Czech literary magazines between 2011 and 2020, i.e. in the 2010s. The thesis includes a brief presentation of the historical development of the women's movement in a global perspective and in the context of the Czech territory, as well as the theoretical definition of the concepts of feminism and gender. An important part of the thesis is also a presentation of the current perception of feminism in Czech society and the events that have shaped the image of feminism in the Czech Republic since the early 1990s. Furthermore, the thesis reflects on contemporary Czech literature and its relationship to feminism, including personalities occupying strong points of view on different poles. The whole theoretical background is then used in the analysis of three particular literary journals: A2, Host and Tvar. In these literary magazines, texts dealing with feminist topics are captured through content analysis. Subsequently, these texts are further processed and categorized. The aim of the analysis is to provide the most possible up-to-date image of the perception and presentation of feminism on the Czech literary scene, but also to find out, whether and to what extent the literary magazines deal with the topic. The analysis...
Body and Time
Olšáková, Marie ; Kupčíková,, Alena (referee) ; Klodová, Lenka (advisor)
This work is about creating a conceptual sculptural work. The goal was to capture the following motives: individual ways of perceiving time and social pressure on women. My personal motivation for creating was the outrage of the societal pressure which is put on women in their reproductive age. The main part of the sculpture is a clock, which is inserted into a plaster cast in the woman's lap. At the same time, a blue IKB pipe is depicted in the woman's lap. The sculpture is a minimalistic depiction of a woman feeling of the societal pressure. Twice a day there is a moment when the hands of the clock cover the pipe, and the pressure that society exerts on us, women, disappears. These moments convey the message that there is no right time. At the same time, I created triptych relief plates in the background, which repeat the plaster material and the use of the bodies that were imprinted into it. Specifically, it captures three generations of women from my family, three different approaches and three different captures of time.
Fairytales about selfdetermination.
Sachrová, Tereza ; Babáková, Bernardeta (referee) ; Klímová, Barbora (advisor)
In my bachelor thesis I present a text named Tales from Beztrudy land in an author book. It’s 12 stories about Lutynka and Hynek living in an abandoned narrow gauge railway near a train station in a land called Beztrudy. They live with eighteen dogs, with a cat without one leg Prlenka, with half dog half fox Bařinka and one domesticated bird. Together with their friends, they face everyday problems (getting food, changing seasons, growing a group of dogs, bottling honey, going to the ball, etc.), as well as traumas, social abnormalities, problems with the dominance of the powerful or the absence of a stable background for life. The setting of the stories - Beztrudy is a paraphrase of the Beskydy Mountains, which are the main inspiration for the stories. The goal of the thesis was to create an ecofeminist text similar to fairy tale series, which would thematize non-hierarchical interpersonal relationships, the relationship with nature or coping with abandonment. In the text part of the thesis, I also deal with the role of dialect in society or when working with language. Furthermore, I thematize here the eternal struggle to preserve the integrity of the landscape and the role of this theme in fairy tale production.
The 1972 Interruption of Pregnancy Law in the context of the family and women's policy of the GDR
Sklenková, Kateřina ; Kunštát, Miroslav (advisor) ; Nigrin, Tomáš (referee)
Kateřina Sklenková: "The 1972 Interruption of Pregnancy Law in the context of the family and women's policy of the GDR." Abstract The Bachelor's thesis focuses on the Interruptionof Pregnancy Law of 1972, which was the only law in East Germany that was passed unanimously. It gave women the option to terminate a pregnancy during its first 12 weeks without any indication. There were ambivalent views in society about this practice. After numerous protests, the churches were granted an exemptionand abortioncould be denied on the basis of faith. In the wave of resistance that rose when it became apparent that artificial terminations of pregnancy would be criminalisedagain in the process of German unification, it can be seen that the Law was generally viewed positively. The thesis places the Law in its historical context and in the context of the regime's other family and emancipation policies This text answers the question of how it was possible that such a liberal norm was in place in the GDR. It explains that there were multiple factors. First, it was the socialist regime itself, which was supposed to be scientific and egalitarian in the spirit of the Marxist revolution. Then there was pressure from within the state, where the restrictive policywas criticisedbythe general public, backed by professional...

Abulkasim, Sarah ; Reifová, Irena (advisor) ; Řičicová, Hana (referee)
This bachelor's thesis explores gender stereotypes in the context of television commercials broadcasted by selected Czech commercial television stations. The author aims to define the conventional stereotypical roles in which men and women are portrayed in advertising spots and to evaluate the potential progress in their media representation. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on key concepts that are necessary to understand the topic, such as gender, sex, gender identity, gender roles, and gender stereotypes. The practical part of the thesis consists of a semiotic analysis following the approach of Roland Barthes and Erving Goffman.
